No longer attracting the stigma of the older, cheap and nasty looking laminate floors, there are now some high-quality laminate flooring products that we at FloorCraft can supply and fit for you. Laminate flooring is extremely hard-wearing and much less liable to scratch than a real wood finish making it ideal for any room in the house. It can now be used in kitchens and bathrooms thanks to new water-resistant options using hydro-seal technology. Laminate flooring is more cost effective than fitting real wood and is fitted on top of an underlay. We can supply all leading brands including Quickstep, Balterio and Egger. As a Quickstep master installer we are able to provide you with a lifetime warranty on the fitting of the product subject to terms and conditions.
The range of styles available are extensive including 3 strip or plank, bevel edged (2 or 4 edges) or v grooved and the colours range from the lightest maple to the popular greys, oaks, warm cherry and dark walnut. Floorcraft will examine your existing sub floor and advise whether a specialist water-vapour barrier (DPM) underlay is needed when fitting on a concrete base. We can quote for any repairs that may need doing and for removing and refitting, or supplying new skirting boards.
For a quality and impressive finish, a engineered wood floor may be what you are looking for. Ideal for any area of your home (except your bathroom) your wood flooring from FloorCraft is available in many styles and colours. Popular choices include oak, grey, beech, maple, cherry, ash or birch and the more exclusive include walnut, merbau, iroko and jatoba. The boards can come in single or triple plank form but we can also source your individual needs.
Solid wood flooring is made from one piece of hardwood timber. The width of the boards can range from 90mm – 210mm and the average thickness is 18mm. The wider the plank of wood, the higher the cost. Your solid wood will need to be fully glued or secretly nailed to the sub floor and we will advise if any levelling is required.
Engineered Flooring is constructed of several layers of wood including a top hardwood layer which gives the engineered floor its quality look for a cheaper price than solid wood. The hardwood layer which can vary in thickness from 0.7mm up to 6mm. This can be fitted as a floating floor or glued to your existing sub floor.
We will bring our extensive range of samples to your door so that you can make your choice at your own convenience. We can also try to match any existing flooring you have or research new products you may be interested in. We have several suppliers who will be happy to provide samples for bespoke projects – no job is too big or too small.
It should be noted that as Oak is a natural product, it will not be uniform in either colour, texture or look. Any samples shown are to give an indication of the flooring, it’s width, depth and veneer (for engineered wood flooring). There are different grades of wood flooring from Rustic (more colour and texture variation, more knots) to Prime (cleaner look, less variation and less knots).
Engineered Oak and solid wood comes in either a lacquered or oiled finish and usually with a bevelled edge. By its very nature, each piece of timber used is unique with variations in grain and colour making your floor one of a kind.
If you are looking for a more uniform appearance then a stained floor may suit you as the stain helps to mask the different variation in shades.
We rarely recommend fitting solid wood flooring these days as Engineered wood flooring is a much more stable product with changes in temperature and humidity allowing it to be fitted in more areas of your home. When they are on the floor, they look almost identical. Solid wood floors can last longer as they can be sanded down and refinished more times than engineered wood flooring but in reality, it’s unlikely you will need or want to do this.
If you are having solid wood flooring fitted it is important to ensure that an adequate expansion gap is left to allow the floor to contract and expand which will avoid cupping and bowing of the boards. You must also keep the humidity and temperature in the area fitted at a consistent level.
Engineered wood flooring is made from several layers of wood pressed together. The top layer is a veneer of solid wood which can vary in thickness (allowing sanding 2-3 times). As the layers run in different directions it makes it more stable with a high resistance to changes in moisture. It can even be fitted on top of underfloor heating whereas solid wood cannot.
If you are still considering having solid wood fitted please call and we will be happy to advise and discuss this with you.
Whilst wood floors are tough, they are not indestructible and they will scratch – the first scratch always hurting the most! You can prevent most problems before they occur by using felt protector pads on your furniture legs. An entrance mat can help prevent dirt and other items that might scratch your floor from entering the house. With proper care and maintenance your new floor can retain its natural beauty, strength and durability.
You should sweep or vacuum your wood floor and clean with a specifically designed spray with a minimal amount of water when needed. We can supply you with a wood care maintenance kit, or these can be bought at most hardware stores. Spills like water or wine, and especially pet urine, should be cleaned as soon as possible to ensure your floor is not spoilt or stained. Pets nails should be trimmed and take special care when moving appliances or furniture.
Ideal for your kitchen, bathroom and conservatory. Vinyl or cushion flooring is available in various thicknesses and is a hard-wearing, low maintenance and an economic solution to your flooring needs. At FloorCraft Essex we can usually match branded vinyls available from retail stores and can therefore save you the inconvenience of having to collect it and fit it in your car.
Underlay is not needed with vinyl cushion flooring as this type of flooring is glued directly to your sub-floor and we will supply the correct adhesive. We will check your existing sub-floor and advise you if you need your concrete floor to be screeded to provide a flat surface or if your floorboards need to be hard-boarded before fitting to ensure solid finish. FloorCraft can prepare your sub floor for you or make any small repairs before fitting your vinyl cushion flooring.
